GALLO GIVES FOUNDATION Awards 2nd Quarter Donations

As part of a continued pledge to support the community in which they live and work, the management, agents and staff of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Gallo Realty have formed the Gallo Gives Foundation.  2018 2nd quarter foundation earnings of $9,250.00 were awarded to the Joseph Patrick Fabber Foundation, Delaware Symphony, The Jason Anderson Foundation, Milton Little League, Cape Henlopen Senior Center, Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Race for the Ribbon 5K, ESL Program and Rehoboth Art League, while a portion of earnings ($1,250.00,) has been set aside for a college-bound senior scholarship which will be available in the spring of 2019.

The Gallo Gives Foundation is funded primarily through the company’s agents, management, and staff. Agents are encouraged to donate a percentage of their commissions earned and the firm matches all agent/staff contributions 100 percent.  Public donations will be accepted as well. Each Gallo Realty office, in Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, and Bethany Beach, is represented by individuals who serve on the foundation’s giving committee. The committee researches community charities in need and recommends funding. The foundation is managed by the Greater Lewes Foundation.

Here is some information about this quarter’s recipients.

jpf$2,500.00 was awarded to The Joseph Patrick Fabber Foundation.  The foundation was created by Vinnie Fabber in response to the loss of her son Joseph at the young age of 20. Joseph’s tragic suicide prompted Vinnie and her family to help find a way to prevent suicide and save lives in their community. The organization offers social and emotional support forums, grief and loss support groups, CPR and first aid training as well as kindergarten readiness programs.  If you’d like to get involved and raise funds for this invaluable organization, please attend the 3rd annual JBFM Foundation Golf Classic at Mulligan’s Pointe in September.  Contact coachfabber@aol.com or visit www.JPFMF.info  for more information.

dso$2,500.00 was donated (toward a $5,000.00 pledge) to the Delaware Symphony Orchestra to help to underwrite the Orchestra’s two Classics Series concerts in Sussex County during the upcoming 2018-2019 season.  Sunday matinee performances, beginning at 3:00 pm, will take place on September 30, 2018, and March 24, 2019, at the Cape Henlopen High School Theatre in Lewes. The Gallo Gives Foundation support will satisfy one quarter of a challenge grant previously awarded the DSO by the Jessie Ball du Pont Fund to help the Orchestra launch multiple annual presentations in Sussex County.  An additional $15,000 must still be raised from local sources to fully meet the challenge.  If you’d like to help bring world-class symphony to Lewes, please visit www.delawaresymphony.org or contact Alan Jordan at alanj@delawaresymphony.org.

$1,000.00 was donated to The Jason Anderson Foundation for Youth Sports.  The organization was founded by the Anderson family after Jason tragically died in an automobile accident in January of 2015 at the age of 33. Sports were an essential part of Jason’s personal and professional life including his time at Syracuse University, the Syracuse Sky Chiefs, the New Orleans Saints, Dover Motor Sports and the Ohio University Sports Administration program.  To ensure Jason’s memory lives on and that his belief of the positive effects of sports can be shared by all children, the foundation seeks to help children participate in a sport that their family may not have the funds for.   While their goal is to expand to other markets – including those places where Jason lived and went to school – they are focusing their efforts in Delaware where his parents, wife and young son reside. RRThe Gallo Gives Foundation was a Platinum Sponsor ($750.00) for the 11th Annual Race for the Ribbon 5 K Run/Walk. Created in memory of her late mother Nancy Hendershot, local teacher Stephanie Shuttleworth organizes the race every year, and divides the proceeds between a local recipient and the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. This year’s recipient is 5-year-old Arden MacPhee who is courageously fighting Cancer for the 2nd time in her short life. $500.00 was donated to the Preservation Matters Exhibition at the Rehoboth Art League.  In existence since 1938, the Art League was founded as a place where artists could teach, gather, and exhibit their work.  Since that time, many works by prominent artists have begun to weather over the years and are in urgent need of conservation treatment.  The Collection Committee has identified works in the most urgent need of treatment and are asking patrons to help support these efforts. To learn more about how you can help, visit www.rehobothartleague.org .

ESL$500.00 was donated to the ESL (English as a Second Language) Program at the Lutheran Church of our Savior in Rehoboth Beach. The program serves individuals who have moved to Sussex County, have a first language other than English and possess a desire to succeed in their new home. Currently, students represent eighteen countries. There are four levels of instruction ranging from non-literate to advanced English skills.  The program benefits the individual, their workplace and our society by increasing meaningful communication and instilling a sense of community.  To volunteer as teacher or to donate to the program, please contact Cheryl Crowe at cheryl@rbre.com.
